Regular #1 Bun Bo Hue

I LOVE Vietnamese food. What can I say? I always go back to my roots. One of our favorite Vietnamese restaurants in the bay area is at Bun Bo Hue Anh Nam in San Jose. I hear Ca Mao (spelling?) is much better, but not sure where it moved to so I haven’t been back to its new location.

My roommate and I decided to take her friend Rob to Anh Nam for him to try some of the famous spicy beef soup one day. On the menu there are really only 2 options. Number 1 is without ox penis and number 2 is with ox penis…*cringe. Our waiter came by and asked us what we wanted and we asked him about the ox penis and he got so excited and it went something like this:

Waiter: Oh meng, ox penut it really goot!

Us: Really? We don’t know…

Waiter: Jut today, one guy order plate all penut…

Err…3 bowls without the ox penis for us please! But our friend Rob decided to be adventurous and try the number 2. According to him…it tastes just like tendon. Unfortuneately, we can’t confirm.
